What If Resentment Is Your Boundary Alarm?, with Barb Nangle
Boundaries can sound like confrontation, but what we’re really chasing is something quieter: internal safety. The kind of safety that shows up when we stop waiting for permission to protect our energy, when “no” stops meaning guilt and starts meaning self-trust. I sit down with Barb Nangle to unpack why healthy boundaries are not rigid walls, and how they can actually create more authentic, intimate relationships because we tell the truth about what is OK and what is not OK for us.
We get practical about what boundary work looks like in real life: figuring out what you want, need, and prefer, noticing where your responsibility ends, and spotting the hidden costs of people pleasing. Barb explains how many of us look for safety in the external world approval, reputation, status and why that approach keeps us overworking and overthinking. We talk about the moment you stop doing all the labour in a friendship, how relationships can change, and why that shift can be painful but also clarifying.
One of the most helpful frameworks in this conversation is the difference between the discomfort of dysfunction and the discomfort of growth. Dysfunction feels familiar and never-ending. Growth feels scary because it’s unfamiliar, but it’s finite and it leads to more peace. We also cover boundary pushback, simple scripts for repeating yourself without being rude, and a powerful reframe: when you slip, treat it as info, not ammo. If resentment has been creeping into your work, family, or friendships, consider this your boundary alarm.
If this helps you, subscribe, share it with a friend who overcommits, and leave a review so more people can find tools for healthy boundaries, internal safety, and a calmer mind.
